The Philippines on 26 June 2010 joined other UN nations in observing the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. United Nations Declaration dated 07 December 1987 and Presidential Proclamation No. 254 dated 01 June 1988, mandate the observance of the “International Day Against Drug Abuse Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT)” on the 26th of June every year.
In the Philippines, the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) spearheads the observance of IDADAIT yearly. This year, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) chose the theme, “Think Health-Not Drugs”.
Consul General Ezzedin H. Tago pleaded to all Filipinos, particularly, the youth, in Jeddah and the Western Region, to shun drug abuse by engaging in healthful activities like sports and other wholesome pursuits. ConGen Tago further stressed that, “A healthy youth is the backbone of a strong nation. We are proud that the Filipino community in Jeddah is very active in sports and we hope this continues. This helps every one stay healthy especially in dealing with daily stress.”
