On 8-10 December 2010, the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia conducted Consular Mobile Services (CMS) in the in the twin cities of Abha and Khamis Mushayt, KSA, approximately 628 kms. and 639 kms., respectively, from Jeddah.

Because of the suspension of CMS from May to November 2010, the mobile team was unable to visit the cities of Najran and Jizan according to schedule.  For this reason, applicants from these areas were likewise accommodated because of the two cities’ relative proximity to Abha and Khamis Mushayt – all of which are part of the Asir region.  This was made possible with the coordination of the Mr. Ronald Dela Cruz and Ms. Rosie Camacho, Area Coordinators of Najran and Jizan, respectively, with Mr. Virgilio Crisostomo, Area Coordinators of Abha and Khamis Mushayt.

The mobile team was able to process 15 new passport applications, 465 passport renewals, and 4 lost passports. To serve the needs of these Filipinos and also for humanitarian consideration, the mobile team granted 63 requests for passport validity extension to applicants who could not be accommodated within the appointment period and had expired passports.  Aside from these, the mobile team also processed 41 notarials, 12 certifications and 1 authentication, majority of which were released on the same day these were filed.

The overall success of the mobile service can be attributed to the  dedication, hard work and cooperation of the Consular Mobile Team composed of Vice Consul Mary Jennifer Dingal (Team Leader), Cecilia Nuguit, Joginder Capapas-Jacinto, Abundio Fiedalan, Camama Mandangan, Jr. and Omar Amatonding, the strong leadership of the Area Coordinators and the unwavering commitment of Filipino community volunteers.

Services from the Consulate’s attached agencies, particularly, POLO-OWWA and PAG-IBIG, were also extended by their representatives who joined the consular team.

During the visit, Vice Consul Dingal was also able to administer the oath of the officers of the newly created Filipino organization in Abha/Khamis Mushayt, the Sinag Visayan Organization.

In the coming year, the Philippine Consulate looks forward to the conduct of Consular Mobile Services in the other provinces within its jurisdiction.  Schedule of these will be announced in due time.
